How does the free demo work?
The demo applies Boost to half of your screen so you can compare it with the other half. It has no time limit. A license unlocks Boost across the full display.
Try it in the places you normally work. Compare the two halves and see the difference on your own display.
Will it work on my Mac?
Solen requires macOS 14 or later and an Apple silicon Mac. Boost is designed for the built-in Liquid Retina XDR display in 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro and non-XDR displays do not support Boost. Try the free demo on your Mac before buying a license.
How bright can it get?
Solen unlocks the HDR brightness available on your XDR display. How bright it looks depends on your Mac, screen content, power settings and temperature. Try the free demo to see the difference on your display.
Higher brightness can use more energy and produce more heat. macOS manages your display’s brightness limits automatically.
Will Solen damage my screen or shorten its lifespan?
Solen uses the HDR brightness range your XDR display is designed to support. This is the same brightness range used for HDR photos and video. Solen works within the brightness headroom macOS makes available and does not bypass your Mac’s thermal protections.
Apple specifies up to 1,000 nits of sustained full-screen HDR brightness for Liquid Retina XDR displays. Higher brightness uses more power and can make your Mac warmer. In hot conditions, macOS can automatically reduce brightness to protect the display. Read Apple’s guidance on limited brightness.
Do my brightness keys still work?
Yes. Keep using the brightness keys on your keyboard, to adjust your Mac’s native brightness. Boost and Dim are separate modes: turning on one turns off the other.
What happens when I turn it off or quit?
Turning Boost or Dim off removes that effect. Quitting Solen also removes its display effects, including Ring Light, and returns the display to normal macOS control.
Open the sun icon in your menu bar whenever you want to turn an effect back on.
What does a license include?
Pay €5 once and use Solen on two Macs. A license unlocks full-screen Boost. There is no subscription.
Moving to a new Mac? Deactivate your old Mac in Solen’s license window to free an activation slot.
Can I use Solen offline?
An internet connection is needed to purchase, activate, and refresh a license. After activation, a Mac can continue using its license offline for up to 30 days from its last successful refresh.
Solen normally refreshes an active license daily. Reconnect before the offline period expires to keep the full-screen license active. The free demo does not need a license.
Does Solen collect anything from my screen?
The app does not send screenshots, screen content, or analytics telemetry. Its display effects run on your Mac.
Buying and activating a license involve the checkout provider and license service. Activation uses a license key and an app-specific hashed Mac identifier; the service uses them to count activations. Read our privacy policy for details.
